FIFA name player of the year

PM warns over unity deal

Harare - Zimbabwe Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai complained Sunday that his unity government deal with President Robert Mugabe was not being implemented and pearl jewelry sets appealed for South African help.

"The real problem is not about the conflict. The real problem is about implementing the Global Political Agreement... then we move our country forward," Tsvangirai told a Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) rally.

He said South Africa, which mediated the agreement, needed to stay involved.

"Zimbabwe's instability is not a domestic issue, it's not a wish pearl jewelry foreign policy to South Africa. It is a domestic issue (for South Africa)," Tsvangirai said.

Tsvangirai and his MDC boycotted the unity government in October, complaining about the non-implementation of the unity deal. But they re-joined the government after the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the guarantors of the agreement, promised to mediate.

Negotiators from Tsvangirai's MDC, Mugabe's Zanu PF and smaller faction of the MDC are still in talks on how to resolve their disputes, in line with SADC recommendations.

Raft of disputes

The unity government created in February has been plagued by a raft of disputes that led Tsvangirai to boycott cabinet meetings for pearl jewelry three weeks in October.

Last month, regional leaders of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) ended the standoff at a special summit in Mozambique, tasking Zuma with helping the parties resolve their differences.

Progress in Zim - Zuma team

Johannesburg - South African mediators on Friday said progress has been made in talks between the rival parties of Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.

"There is progress on the akoya pearl beads dialogue that has been made between the parties," Lindiwe Zulu, spokesperson for the mediators, said.

"While we are anxious that all issues are resolved, the good thing is that they are talking," she addded.

"As far as we are concerned and as far as President (Jacob) Zuma is concerned, the earlier the issues are resolved, the better for the welfare and social status for the people of Zimbabwe."

The mediators including Zulu, who is the freshwater pearl earrings South African president's international adviser, returned from Zimbabwe on Wednesday, after holding a series of meetings with the negotiators from Mugabe's Zanu-PF and the two factions of the opposition MDC.

The delegation, which also includes former cabinet ministers Charles Nqakula and Mac Maharaj, met last week with Mugabe at his State House offices.

Zuma's spokesperson did not comment on a possible visit by his boss, but said in a statement that a delegation of mediators sent by Zuma was leaving for Zimbabwe on Sunday.

Tsvangirai boycotted the unity government for three weeks, returning in early November after receiving assurances Zuma would intervene to help resolve a number of issues.

Those include charges that forces loyal to President Robert Mugabe were attacking Tsvangirai's supporters.
